About Us

Cathy uses her wide life experience to understand the issues facing the individual, be they physical or emotional.

Her osteopathic and ESWT treatments are clinically focussed considering the stresses that the individual’s body is facing whether that be through commuting, being in-front of a pc all day, an injury, managing young children, postural alignment or just the aches and pains of everyday life.

Cathy has a special interest in working with people to help them have functionally rich lives where there condition, whether age, injury or illness related, impairs their day-to-day life. Cathy enjoys helping to enable people to make small improvements that improve their quality of life.

What to expect when you visit your osteopath

We will spend some time at the beginning of the consultation gathering details about your symptoms as well as your general health and lifestyle. This enables us to start working out what the problem may be. Because we take quite a lot of detail, your initial appointment will take longer than your follow-up appointments (if required).

With your consent, we will then examine you which may involve asking you to make certain movements. We will also feel your joints and muscles to see how well your body is working, If you have x-rays, scans or test results, please bring them with you along with a list of any medications you are taking.

In order for us to examine you thoroughly we may ask you to undress down to your underwear if you are comfortable to do so. It isn’t a problem if you would prefer not to, but please wear loose, comfortable clothing so we can still examine and treat you properly. You are welcome to bring someone to your treatment.

Your osteopath will make a diagnosis and discuss a course of treatment with you, also providing suggestions of what you can do yourself to help recovery and manage any problem you may have. If we feel your particular complaint needs a different kind of treatment or investigation we will let you know this and suggest the best way to go about this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Osteopathy is a system of manual diagnosis and treatment used for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. It is based on the principle that the well-being of a person is dependent on the body’s muscles, ligaments, skeleton and connective tissue working in harmony. It uses the philosophy that in order for an individual to function well, then the underlying structures need to be working well together and therefore looks to restore balance and function where dysfunction exists.

Osteopathy is a safe and effective form of Primary Healthcare that is protected by statue and is regulated in the UK. All Osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteoapthic Council (GOsC) which promotes high standards of care and monitors the profession. All osteopaths have undertaken a 4 or 5 year degree course, attained a Bachelors or Masters degree and will have done a minimum of 1000 clinic hours prior to qualifying to register with GOsC.

Osteopaths use a variety of techniques including palpation; articulation; manipulation; METs, Trigger Points and soft-tissue massage to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, thereby supporting the body’s own healing mechanisms. Osteopathy is effective for those seeking immediate care and is beneficial for those wishing to invest in long-term health and preventative solutions.
