Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a system of manual diagnosis and treatment used for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. It is based on the principle that the wellbeing of a person is dependent on the body’s muscles, ligaments, skeleton and connective tissue working in harmony.
Osteopaths are Allied Health Care Professionals recognised by the NHS and governed by statute. They are highly trained and use a variety of techniques to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, thereby supporting the body’s own healing mechanisms. Osteopathy is effective for those seeking immediate care and is beneficial for those wishing to invest in long-term health and preventative solutions.
Osteopathy is suitable for almost everyone and is renowned for treating back pain but does treat all areas of the body using a patient centred approach. Our practice includes the use of many techniques, including articulation, HVTs, soft tissue massage, trigger pointing, muscle energy techniques and acupuncture if appropriate and agreed with the patient.
Patients seek treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including but not restricted to: lower back pain, neck pain, tendinopathy, joint and muscle pain, arthritic pain, sports injuries, headaches, RSI, poor postural alignment and pregnancy related pain.
During your initial consultation, a full medical history will be taken together with details about your current issue. With your consent, you will be examined and treated. The course of treatment will depend on the issue, its severity and how long you have had it but your osteopath will discuss this with you. You may be asked to undress down to your underwear if it is felt necessary but towels etc will be used if this is required to maintain your dignity.
We also offer an add-on service of a blood pressure and overall cholesterol check. These can be purchased as an extension to either an Initial or Follow-Up consultation but must be booked in advance”.
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive, out-patient alternative to surgery for those with many joint and tendon disorders. ESWT sends acoustic shock waves into bone or soft tissue, in effect reinjuring the area on a cellular level and breaking up the scarring that has penetrated tendons and ligaments. The controlled reinjuring of tissue allows the body to regenerate blood vessels and bone cells. The resulting revascularization leads to faster healing and often a return to pre-injury activity levels. It is a treatment using powerful acoustic pulses in physical therapy.
Used in PureBright Therapies to treat:
- Achilles Tendinopathy, Plantar Fasciitis, Tennis and Golfers’ Elbow, Rotator Cuff Injuries, Frozen Shoulder & Other tendinopathies and muscular dysfuntion
Results are normally seen after 3 treatments but it may take a cycle of 6 for the desired improvement. Treatments must be not more than 1 week apart.

What to expect when you visit your osteopath
We will spend some time at the beginning of the consultation gathering details about your symptoms as well as your general health and lifestyle. This enables us to start working out what the problem may be. Because we take quite a lot of detail, your initial appointment will take longer than your follow-up appointments (if required).
With your consent, we will then examine you which may involve asking you to make certain movements. We will also feel your joints and muscles to see how well your body is working, If you have x-rays, scans or test results, please bring them with you along with a list of any medications you are taking.
In order for us to examine you thoroughly we may ask you to undress down to your underwear if you are comfortable to do so. It isn’t a problem if you would prefer not to, but please wear loose, comfortable clothing so we can still examine and treat you properly. You are welcome to bring someone to your treatment.
Your osteopath will make a diagnosis and discuss a course of treatment with you, also providing suggestions of what you can do yourself to help recovery and manage any problem you may have. If we feel your particular complaint needs a different kind of treatment or investigation we will let you know this and suggest the best way to go about this.

Osteopathy is a system of manual diagnosis and treatment used for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. It is based on the principle that the well-being of a person is dependent on the body’s muscles, ligaments, skeleton and connective tissue working in harmony.
