What to expect when you visit your osteopath
- We will spend some time at the beginning of the consultation gathering details about your symptoms as well as your general health and lifestyle. This enables us to start working out what the problem may be. Because we take quite a lot of detail, your initial appointment will take longer than your follow-up appointments (if required).
- With your consent, we will then examine you which may involve asking you to make certain movements. We will also feel your joints and muscles to see how well your body is working, If you have x-rays, scans or test results, please bring them with you along with a list of any medications you are taking.
- In order for us to examine you thoroughly we may ask you to undress down to your underwear if you are comfortable to do so. It isn’t a problem if you would prefer not to, but please wear loose, comfortable clothing so we can still examine and treat you properly. You are welcome to bring someone to your treatment.
- Your osteopath will make a diagnosis and discuss a course of treatment with you, also providing suggestions of what you can do yourself to help recovery and manage any problem you may have. If we feel your particular complaint needs a different kind of treatment or investigation we will let you know this and suggest the best way to go about this.
